The Periodic Table: The Map That Decoded the Universe
In 1869 a Russian chemist named Dmitri Mendeleev arranged 63 elements
on cards and spotted a pattern that changed science forever. He built
a table. And he left gaps — predicting elements that had not yet been
discovered, describing their properties in advance.
He was right.
In this video we trace the full story of the periodic table — from the
chaos of 1860s chemistry to quantum electron shells, from Mendeleev's
prophecy to supernovae forging gold, from table salt chemistry to the
island of stability at element 126.
⏱ Chapters
0:00 118 building blocks of everything
0:30 The chaos before the table
1:00 Mendeleev's prophecy
1:45 Atomic number: the real organising principle
2:25 Periods, groups, and patterns
2:55 The noble gases — why they stand apart
3:25 Trends encoded in the table
4:05 Electron shells and why they matter
4:50 Transition metals and d-electron chemistry
5:30 Lanthanides, actinides, and radioactivity
6:10 The modern 118-element table
6:40 The power of prediction: gallium and eka-aluminium
7:20 Where elements come from: stellar nucleosynthesis
8:05 Salt: two deadly elements, one safe compound
8:45 The periodic table in your technology
9:25 The human story behind the table
9:55 s, p, d, f blocks explained
10:35 The elements inside you right now
11:05 What comes after element 118?
