MaGMML3 - Wilys Redemption Element 1 3/5 Stars 1:23.730

Here's Level of the Week 133 with the Category of the Week, Star Seeker. The Stars in this stage are actually pretty easy. I think you can tell it's one of the earlier ones we put Stars in because we use a similar trick twice in one stage. Although this was one that we tested late so I definitely should've flagged this one. Oops.

Star 1 is in the screen with the single Jumbig. It's under the nook on the right. It's a fairly easy Electro Cable maneuver, but it feels like you have a pretty high chance of getting magic pixel'd and losing out on the Star for no reason. Might just be a skill issue. Star 2 is in the vertical room after the Hanabiran. The button is at the very top of the screen and you need to drop down to the bottom and go to the right to grab it. I'm pretty sure an Electro Cable optimization is required. Star 3 is under the nook in the vertical room where the two split paths converge. Grabbing it as simple as climbing the right wall with Track Shoes and then moving into it. The other two Stars are in the Element 2 area which we can't get to without locking ourselves out of Element 1.

So with those 3 Stars, the only other thing we need to do is make it to the easier Element of the stage. The start of the stage features these weird stack enemies. Their bodies are solid so you need to destroy them to move on. The fastest way to do this without losing Rush Bike time would be to shoot them with the Rush Bike buster, but the mashing is actually pretty hard. Autofire, as much as I hate using it, is the best solution to this. You can shoot while jumping and not need to do any hard mashing.

Hanabiran is actually pretty easy in this Element because we can drop in from above and quickly Royal Guard it down. Make no mistake though, this thing is a menace in Element 2 runs.

The vertical section features a strat where you ascend it with mostly Tornado Blow jumps. The tempting thing to do is to climb up the right wall with Track Shoes, but that loses about 3 seconds over my strat here. The Gachappon is actually kind of a problem. If it does the lobbing attack, it has a really good chance of hitting you when you hit the top of the section. It's really annoying and loses some time and it's completely based on RNG. The bad part is that in this category, we need to pass the RNG check twice since we need to go down for the Star and then back up again for progress.

We take the fire path here. I was actually shocked to learn that this path is faster than the ice path. We need to fight Suzak and Fenix which is a much more annoying midboss than the Squidon and Shirokumachine and we need to dismount Rush Bike about the same amount of times and the fire path has some extra boss doors. But the fire path is actually about 1 or 2 seconds faster. I guess the extra blocks and the ladders in the ice path actually do matter. Regardless of that though, the fire path is what we would want to take in Star Seeker anyways because it puts us closer to Star 3.

This run beats the previous 3 Star record, megabanana's 2:18. For improvements, I got hit by the Gachappon once and it turns out that Ctrl+R-ing at the boss door after the Suzak and Fenix saves a tiny bit of time. Other than that, there's nothing else that really sticks out to me as mistakes.
