The 'City Montessori School' located in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh is the largest school in the world. This school was started in 1959 with a cost of Rs.300 and with 5 children. It was founded by Dr. Jagdish Gandhi and Dr. Bharti Gandhi. This school is the largest school in the world in terms of area and number of children. According to the census of the year 2019, 55,547 children were studying in this school. There are total 18 campuses of this school in Lucknow city itself. The school has 2,500 teachers, 3,700 computers and 1,000 classrooms. In the year 2005, this school made the 'Guinness Book of World Records' with 29,212 students. Earlier this record was in the name of 'Rizal High School' of Philippines in which the number of students was 19,738. This school has received the Peace Education Award by UNESCO in the year 2002 and the 'Hope of Humanity' Award by Tibetan religious leader Dalai Lama.
