This is Episode Five: Consistency Models.

Last episode, we learned the CAP theorem says you must choose between consistency and availability during a partition. But we used "consistency" as a single word — as if it means one thing.

It doesn't. There's an entire hierarchy of consistency models, from the strongest guarantee you can make to almost no guarantee at all. And understanding this hierarchy is essential for designing distributed systems.
