Social media has changed my life.
Thanks to Snapchat, I've connected with two amazing people in Morocco who hosted me at their family's houses over the last 5 days. Saad, in El Jadida, and Hajar, in Casablanca.
I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing this experience has been!
10 years ago, or even 5 years ago (when Snapchat was founded), it would have not been possible to meet Saad and Hajar. If it wasn't for social media, I would have never met their wonderful families, eaten their delicious home-cooked meals, slept in their comfortable beds or enjoyed the presence of their smiling faces.
I am very grateful for the times we live in. Many people see our "social media" generation as a disaster, that we are constantly glued to our phones all day long, etc. But I will always argue against them. What has happened to me over the last 5 days in Morocco is a perfect example. I am living proof. Social media (i.e. Facebook) has also connected me with you.
What's your take on our 'social media generation?' Have you met others through social media on your travels?
P.S. -- I'd like to let all of you know that Arabic hospitality is truly the best in the world. I've never been treated with more respect and sincerity than in Arabic countries. Similar situations have happened to me in Kuwait, Oman, Jordan and Bahrain.
