Taking care of your kid's eyes is very important, which should start at an early age. Just like a visit to the dentist and paediatrician, it should be a regular practice. Getting their eyes examined regularly may help to treat vision problems and eye diseases at an early stage. Indeed, babies and toddlers can’t read an eye chart, but this should not be an excuse as there are other ways to determine their eye health.

Kids should have their first eye examination by 6 months of age. This can be done by Pediatric ophthalmologists, who have special training to treat kids' eye problems.

Repeat this before kindergarten in children without any evident eye problems. After this, you may have their eyes examined at 3 and then at about age 5 or 6. Once you kids start regular schooling, you must have their eyes examined every 2 years to see if they need eyeglasses or have any complications.

Premature infants and kids with a family history of eye problems should be examined more regularly.
