Graceland 2020

Elvis was not one of my favorite artists. But after visiting Graceland I have grown to admire and respect the accomplishments that he had over the years. After graduating high school in 1953, he was driving an electrician's truck making $1.00 an hour driving electricians to their jobs. On July 5th, 1954 he drove his Chevy pickup truck to Sun Studios and paid $4.00 to audition a song and have a tape made. A local DJ heard the song "That's all Right, Mama" and played it 7 times in the first hour after the radio station's switchboard lit up. The people were asking "who was that singer"? The station then played it an additional 14 times in the next 3 hours. Sun made a record of it on July 18, 1954. That song was the beginning of Elvis's career and within 18 months was crowned "King of Rock "N " Roll". On August 16, 1977 Elvis succumbed to drugs 23 years after he made that song. He was laid to rest in the Memorial Garden at Graceland.
