Grandmother Fights for Law Requiring Drunk Drivers to Pay Child Support ⚖️❤️

In Missouri, grandmother Cecilia Williams has tirelessly advocated for Bentley's Law, named after her grandson who lost his parents to a drunk driver in 2021. In early 2026, the Missouri legislature is reviewing House Bill 1910 and Senate Bill 1135, which would require convicted drunk drivers to pay child support until the surviving child turns 18, or 21 if a student.

While the law originated in Missouri, it has already been enacted in seven other states, including Tennessee, Texas, and Kentucky. Advocacy groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) support the measure to ensure financial accountability, specifically targeting those who leave children without parental support due to driving under the influence of alcohol.
