South Africa’s Deputy President in Juba to revive fragile South Sudan peace deal

South Africa’s Deputy President Paul Mashatile is in South Sudan for a two-day visit aimed at rescuing the fragile 2018 peace deal. The agreement is at risk of collapse because of the treason and murder trial against First Vice President Riek Machar, one of its key signatories. South Africa says it remains committed to helping resolve the political deadlock.
