Scrolling on your phone is good. The algorithm isn't your enemy. It's a mirror.

It watches what you stop on, what you replay, what you send to a friend, what you abandon at second three. Then it shows you more of that. That's the whole machine.

So the question isn't whether to scroll. The question is what your feed says about you. If your For You page is rage bait and breakup videos, that's not the algorithm being mean — that's the algorithm being accurate. If it's optical illusions and dog rescues, that's also accurate. The feed is a polaroid of your last two weeks of attention. It just developed faster than you did.

Most people blame the algorithm because the alternative is harder. The alternative is admitting that what you actually want, when you're tired and bored and not performing for anyone, is mostly stuff you'd never tell your friends you watch.

The algorithm doesn't think you're stupid. It thinks you're honest. That's the worse problem.
