Le Crete Senesi sono individuabili nella zona a sud-est della città di Siena, il nome deriva dall'argilla presente nel terreno che rende il territorio molto particolare ed unico al mondo.

Il paesaggio è caratterizzato da colline brulle e dolcemente ondulate, querce e cipressi solitari, poderi isolati in cima alle alture, tratti di bosco negli avvallamenti e i fontoni che raccolgono l'acqua piovana.
Per visitare la zona partendo da Siena, vi consigliamo di visitare per prima la scultura "Site Transitoire" dell'artista Jean-Paul Philippeper, prendete la SP438 Lauretana e circa 4 km dopo Arbia girate verso la Strada di Leonina; attraversate il suggestivo viale costeggiato da cipressi e superate il Castello che ospita un'albergo di lusso. Dopo poco si arriva in cima alla collina e vedrete svettare l'originale scultura in pietra. Durante il giorno del solstizio d’estate il 21 giugno il sole tramonta nell’ appiombo della grande finestra in pietra, creando uno spettacolo veramente incantevole. Continuate poi verso Asciano, tipico borgo medievale dalla bellezza antica ed infine prendete la SP60 strada provinciale del Pecorile che si inerpica su una serie di colline calcaree tra le più alte del comprensorio, ricca scorci panoramici mozzafiato.
Lungo questo percorso si trovano diversi scorci, spesso utilizzati per film e spot pubblicitari, come ad esempio l'agriturismo Baccoleno, luogo divenuto celebre e adottato come simbolo dell'intera Toscana.

The Crete Senesi can be identified in the area south-east of the city of Siena, the name derives from the clay present in the soil that makes the area very special and unique in the world.

The landscape is characterized by barren and gently undulating hills, solitary oaks and cypresses, isolated farms on top of the hills, stretches of wood in the valleys and fountains that collect rainwater.
To visit the area starting from Siena, we recommend that you first visit the sculpture "Site Transitoire" by the artist Jean-Paul Philippeper, take the SP438 Lauretana and about 4 km after Arbia turn towards the Strada di Leonina; cross the suggestive avenue lined with cypresses and pass the Castle which houses a luxury hotel. After a while you will reach the top of the hill and you will see the original stone sculpture soar. During the day of the summer solstice on June 21, the sun sets in the perpendicular of the large stone window, creating a truly enchanting spectacle. Then continue towards Asciano, a typical medieval village of ancient beauty and finally take the SP60 provincial road of Pecorile which climbs up a series of limestone hills among the highest in the area, rich in breathtaking panoramic views.
Along this route there are several glimpses, often used for films and commercials, such as the Baccoleno farmhouse, a place that has become famous and adopted as a symbol of the whole of Tuscany.
