Cardiac poisons have mainly actions on the heart, either directly on the musculature or through its nerve supply.
These poisons generally produce deleterious effect on the action of the heart, due to poisoning of the cardiac muscle or of its conducting system.
Important poisonous plants and compounds in this group are:
Aconite (Aconitum napellus, Aconitum ferox)
Nicotine (Nicotiana tabacum)
Digitalis (Digitalis purpurea)
Oleander (Cerbera thevetia, Cerbera odorum)
Quinine
