UK paper of record slams ‘fantasy’ of 215 graves at Kamloops school

The Times newspaper in London, one of Britain's oldest and most authoritative papers, published an article calling the Kamloops story a fantasy indulged by the likes of Justin Trudeau. The Globe and Mail admitted on May 30 it was a failure of journalism. Trudeau still has not set the record straight. Neither has the Carney government. Meanwhile Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan is about to collect up to $11.6 billion USD from its $300 million SpaceX investment. Jim and Iain on both stories and what they have in common.

Topics covered:
► The Times newspaper in London publishing an article calling the Kamloops 215 story a fantasy, describing the lack of accountability from Canadian leaders who promoted unverified claims, and noting that activists and politicians who demand accountability from others have shown none of their own on this issue. Jim and Iain note they cannot independently verify the specific Times article but describe its contents including the line about Trudeau faking it and pouring gasoline on the fire.

► The Globe and Mail's May 30, 2026 admission that its Kamloops reporting was a failure of journalism, noting Trudeau made dramatic pronouncements not founded in fact and still has the opportunity to set the record straight, and that neither he nor the current Liberal government has done so

► The international spread of the Kamloops accountability story: the Globe and Mail editorial, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and now The Times UK all covering Canada's failure to verify the claim before acting on it at a national scale

► The consequences of the unverified claim: flags lowered for five months, hundreds of millions in federal funding sent, a national day established, churches burned or vandalised in the weeks following the announcement, and a Senate committee voting to jail Canadians for two years for questioning the narrative the week the Globe admitted it was never verified

► The pattern Jim identifies: progressive movements that demand accountability of others showing none themselves, using the convenient timing of the George Floyd moment to amplify a Canadian equivalent, and now quietly letting the story die on the margins with no apology

► The CBC's framing of the Henry Nowak case as "how Britain's far right hijacked the murder" versus the US State Department's framing of it as evidence of ideological conditioning and two-tier policing being symptoms of civilisation decline, used by Jim and Iain to illustrate the CBC's activist editorial posture

► The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan SpaceX windfall: the $300 million invested in 2019 could be worth up to $11.6 billion USD at SpaceX's anticipated IPO valuation of $1.75 trillion, with trading scheduled to begin June 12, 2026, making it the most successful single investment in the fund's history

► Jim's progressive hypocrisy argument: Ontario teachers subscribe to an ideology that considers Elon Musk the embodiment of everything they oppose, yet their pension fund is about to collect $11.6 billion from his company, and nobody will demand they give it back, because the dollar sign is always more important than the religion

Will Trudeau or Carney ever set the record straight on Kamloops, and what would accountability actually look like five years later?
