The Broken Amp That Changed Rock Guitar
One broken amplifier helped create one of the most famous guitar sounds in rock history. During a recording session in 1961, a small amp was accidentally damaged. Instead of fixing it, the band used the distorted sound in the recording. That song was “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks, and the gritty guitar tone helped inspire the future sound of rock and heavy guitar music.
