Most AI apps become irrelevant the moment OpenAI or Anthropic ships a smarter model. That is the wrapper problem. You send an input, get an output, and the whole thing depends on a model someone else built. The moment that model improves, there is nothing left that is yours.

A real AI product is different. Take a customer support tool for an e-commerce brand — it is not just calling GPT. It has six months of that company's order data, refund patterns, and customer history baked in. GPT alone cannot replicate that.

Three things make an AI product stick: proprietary data the LLM does not have by default, a workflow that fits a specific business instead of acting as a generic chatbot, and compounding value — the more people use it, the better it gets.

That third one is the hardest to build and the hardest to copy.
