400% One-Trade-a-Day Gold Strategy - Modified Initial Balance Breakout (Fully Automatable)

This strategy returned 411% over the last year in gold futures. Trading one contract. It does not include compounding, but as the account grew, the position size definitely could have as well, potentially pushing the return up to 600% or more.

Edgeful is a site that provides statistics on a wide range of market trends and events.

This is a modified version of the Initial Balance Breakout Strategy.

This setup is specific to Gold, since each asset behaves differently. These parameters did not translate well to ES or Silver.

Here are the settings used for the strategy:

Trading days: Monday–Friday. Edgeful breaks down performance by weekday, so you can exclude any consistently low‑edge days. All are performing well, so all are included currently.

Direction: Can trade long, short, or both. You can restrict direction if the data supports a bias.

Initial Balance (IB) parameters:

-Min IB size: 0.3%

-Max IB size: 1.5%

-Entry: 25% of IB. If upside breakout, then entry is 25% below IB high. If downside breakout, then entry is 25% above IB low.

Stop loss: 60% of IB. If upside breakout, then SL is 60% below IB high. If downside breakout, then entry is 60% above IB low.

Profit target: 50% of the IB, measured from IB high (long) or IB low (short)

IB window: 9:30–10:30 AM Eastern (1‑hour IB). Since Gold trades nearly 24 hours, this window is adjustable.

Session window: 9:30 AM–4:00 PM Eastern, also adjustable due to Gold’s 23‑hour trading day.

It is recommended to run statistics of IB standard, IB size, IB retracement, and IB levels on Edgeful every couple of months to see how the market is moving and adjust the strategy settings accordingly.
