Cantata 53, Schlage doch, despite being one of the better-know cantatas, is probably by George Melchior Hoffmann (1679?-1715). Like Telemann, he studied law in Leipzig and had a succesful musical career there. It is a single aria, scored for strings with two bells sounding a knell, memorable and powerful, irrespective of who wrote it..
