Aquaponics system retro-fit Part 6 - Making breeding tanks

Today, we are cutting up 55 gallon barrels to make fish breeding tanks and power washing each and every one of them!

We are moving the aquaponics system off of the patio and out to where the old swimming pool used to be. We will be setting up a couple of greenhouses for veggies and tropical plants.

This is going to be a half recirculating system and half non-recirculating system. The recirculating system will feed a bunch of raised planter beds, fish breeding tanks and a float table in the greenhouse. The non-recirculating system will be feed all the porch and patio plants as well as our fence lines ringed with roses and lots of other flowering plants for the local bee and butterfly population.

We will have Hybrid Brim, Read Eared Sun Fish, Shell Crackers, Koi and some African Cyclids breeding in the various different fish tanks. All in all we will have over eight different big fish tanks going at the same time.

The plants really like all this fish water laden with fish poop!
