Eugenie Scott: Crank Anthropology
Eugenie Scott is a physical and biological anthropologist, and one of the country’s leading advocates in the fight to keep Young Earth creationism and intelligent design out of public school science classes. She is the author of “Evolution vs. Creationism: An Introduction,” and the chair of the advisory council for the National Center of Science Education.
Anthropology, the science of humankind, deals with evolution, human biology, and archaeology, all in the context of the behavioral complexities of culture. Perhaps this breadth – and the fact that the subject is ourselves – is why there is such a huge amount of misinformation, misunderstanding, and just plain pseudoscience about human evolution and human nature. Scott tells us what the actual science of anthropology says about some of the most popular myths and legends in crank anthropology.
