Peru Vote Too Close to Call as Fujimori's Lead Narrows

Peru’s bitterly contested presidential election remained too close to call as leftist candidate Roberto Sánchez nudged ahead of conservative Keiko Fujimori with votes still being counted. #peru #politics #worldnews #trump

Peruvian assets dropped earlier Monday as Sánchez’s showing was stronger than investors anticipated, but began to trim losses, with the sol flipping into gains Monday afternoon.

The leftist candidate led with 50.012% to Fujimori’s 49.988% with 93.95% of ballots tallied, although the outcome remains uncertain as votes from Sánchez’s strongholds in remote regions were trickling in, and a small number of overseas votes had been counted, a bloc that is expected to favor Fujimori.
