ELO Evil Woman Mr Blue Sky on Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2017
Electric Light Orchestra members inducted in the 2017 Rock Hall class are Bev Bevan, Jeff Lynne, Richard Tandy and Roy Wood. Jeff Lynne's ELO performs “Evil Woman,” the Electric Light Orchestra’s Top 10 1975 hit, followed by “Mr. Blue Sky” from 1977’s Out of the Blue. Fellow ELO inductee Richard Tandy – the only other legacy member of the band who regularly appears with Lynne – was not onstage. Instead, Bernie Smith was at the keyboard. Lee Pomoroy plays bass guitar.
Richard Tandy joined in 1972, the same period that saw co-founder and 2017 Hall of Fame honoree Roy Wood depart. Bev Bevan, who bowed out of tonight’s induction ceremony because of touring obligations, was a member from 1970-86.
By the time Jeff Lynne released 2000’s Zoom under the Electric Light Orchestra banner, Tandy was the only band member left. Watch ELO Zoom Tour Live 2001 here: https://youtu.be/qr1REQlAOc4
Lynne meticulously re-recorded all of the songs for 2012’s Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra, all by himself. Alone in the Universe was also largely recorded alone by Lynne, and released with the new band name Jeff Lynne’s ELO in 2015.
This year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Barclay Center, NY debuted on HBO on April 29, 2017.
Guardians Of The Galaxy "Awesome Mix Vol. 2" track 1 is "Mr. Blue Sky" by Electric Light Orchestra. "I've always said that if the Guardians had a house band, it would be ELO," says director James Gunn, "and 'Mr. Blue Sky' is one of my favorite songs by them. We had a hard time getting the rights. We had to really fight to get the song, and I personally appealed to Jeff Lynne." Lynne had previously approved a song for the first Guardians that Gunn ended up cutting, which made the process harder this time. But in the end, Gunn says, "I think we made him an offer he couldn't refuse."
