Police release dashcam footage of Britney Spears’ DUI Arrest | GMA News

Police in California have released a dashcam footage capturing the March arrest of pop star Britney Spears, showing officers pulling her over, questioning the singer about alcohol use and ultimately taking her into custody on suspicion of impaired driving.

The video, recorded on March 4 in Ventura County, shows officers stopping Spears’ vehicle at night after she was reported driving erratically. Shortly after the stop, an officer asks Spears if she had consumed alcohol. “I’ve been dancing,” she replies from inside the car as the officer requests to examine her eyes.

In the footage, the officer instructs Spears to follow his finger with her eyes as part of a field sobriety check. In another exchange, Spears tells officers it was the “first time driving” her new car.

Portions of the video show officers continuing their assessment before placing Spears in handcuffs. The dashcam later captures police escorting her between patrol vehicles.

In a subsequent exchange from inside a police car, Spears asks officers about her phone, seeking reassurance it remains in her purse. In a separate clip, she questions officers about their assessment of her condition.

“Do you think I’m drunk?” Spears asks. The officer responds, “I believe you are impaired, yes,” adding that he did not believe she could safely operate a vehicle. He tells her she was stopped after allegedly driving between lanes.

Spears was originally charged with driving under the influence but later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving, avoiding a lengthier probation period. | via Reuters
