Officer-involved shooting unfolds at 'known drug compound' in Yelm, suspect hospitalized

A deputy shot and wounded a man after responding to a fire at a site in Yelm on Thursday morning, according to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.

The TCSO said deputies were called around 9 a.m. to a vehicle fire in the 149th Lane Southeast area.

The location is "a known drug compound in the area" and has been flagged, so the fire department will not respond there alone, the agency said.

"It's a pile of garbage," said Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders. "There's constant drug activity, stolen vehicles, drug trafficking, weapons trafficking. All sorts of stuff is going on there."
