How Vibe Coding Is Redefining Product Development

AI is changing how products are built by shifting the focus from defining requirements to evaluating outcomes.

A key takeaway from this discussion is that advances in AI-enabled development allow teams to move more quickly from idea to working prototype. Instead of waiting for fully refined designs or detailed specifications, teams can now create early versions that include both functional code and initial design, and use those to test direction.

This changes the role of product management.

Rather than writing detailed “if-then” requirements, the focus shifts to defining what good looks like. Product leaders are increasingly setting evaluation criteria, reviewing outputs, and guiding iteration through structured feedback loops.

This creates a different kind of development cycle.

AI handles more of the lower-value production work, while humans focus on higher-value judgment. Each iteration becomes an opportunity to refine both the solution and the criteria used to evaluate it, improving alignment between the product and the intended outcome.

There is still a role for scaled engineering and more structured development approaches. As products mature, teams bring in the right level of rigor and specialization. But the early stages are now faster, more flexible, and more exploratory.

The broader implication is that product thinking is evolving. The ability to evaluate, guide, and iterate is becoming as important as the ability to define and document.
