Itchy ears are because of anything, any irritation in the ear, nose and throat can cause itchy ears. There can be so many chronic problems that can cause itchy ears. In any case if you have itchy ears, the first and the most common problems is the use of ear buds. You continue using ear buds, your itchy ears will never go because we have a self-cleansing mechanism of the ear buds , that means when you chew, when you swallow, automatically our ears will get cleaned. But when we try to use earbuds, we tend to destroy the self-cleansing mechanism. We have some small hair follicles called the cilia, which actually tried to put the wax outside and when you put the ear buds, that tends to destroy them. That causes release of histamine and that causes itching feeling and the whole cycle repeats over and over again. So the best thing to do is try to find out the cause of your self-cleansing mechanism and try to find out a cure for those particular cause. You have to understand that the skin which lines the ear is the skin which is surrounding the scalp. So most of the time, we have something called as dandruff or a sebhorriec dermatitis of the scalp. So when you treat that, itching will go. In any case when you have itchy ears, make sure that the systemic problems are taken care like sugar and hypertension and diabetes. That will take care of your chronic problems that can cause itchiness. So if you have itchiness, as soon as possible, consult an ENT doctor so that he can find out the root cause of the itchiness and give you the proper instruction on how to take care of your ears.
