Fire up the plasma jets, engage the hyper-stellar drive, and chart a course across the universe to this amazing celestial phenomenon, navigating through a constant incoming field of stars- a full 10 hours in high definition 4K for deep space stellar experience!

Butterfly Nebula NGC 6302 is a prime example of a “planetary nebula”... nebulas with a round appearance that resemble a planet when viewed through a small telescope. Butterfly Nebula is among the most complex nebula ever observed.
NGC 6302 may look like a delicate butterfly, but the colorful wings are roiling cauldrons of gas heated to more than 36,000 degrees Fahrenheit. A cataclysm of gases unleashes a stream of ultraviolet radiation across space that gives a distinctive cast-off material glow. This cauldron of gas is streaming across space at more than 600,000 miles an hour.
A dying star is situated at the center of the Nebula. This central star is a white dwarf with a current mass of around 0.64 solar masses, and is surrounded by a dense equatorial disc composed of gas and dust. The star itself cannot be seen, because it is hidden behind a doughnut-shaped ring of dust. The thick dust belt blocks the star’s outflow, creating the classic "bipolar" hourglass shape.
The star’s surface temperature is estimated to be about 400,000 degrees Fahrenheit, making it one of the hottest known stars in our galaxy.
NGC 6302 features white-colored regions—areas of white light is emitted by sulfur. These sulfuric regions exhibit fast-moving gas that overtake and collide with slower moving gas that exited the star at an earlier time. This phenomenon produces shock waves in the gas. The white area with the crisp edge in upper right quadrant is an example of one of those shock waves.
The prominent dark lane that runs through the center of this celestial object has been shown to have an unusual composition, showing evidence for multiple crystalline silicates, crystalline water ice and quartz. The glowing gas is the star’s outer layers, expelled over about 2,200 years. Nebula NGC 6302 stretches for more than two light-years across space.
