Tatarstan is a Russian republic on the Silk Road to Siberia. The country is famous for its unique historical monuments, both Orthodox and Islamic, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Above all, coexistence between Tatars and Russians is important, although mostly Russian is heard in the cities. The capital Kazan is famous for its mighty sacral architecture, where minarets mingle with the onion domes of Orthodox churches.
