AIS-189 (Automotive Industry Standard 189) establishes a framework for Vehicle Cybersecurity Management Systems (CSMS) and Software Update Management Systems (SUMS). It mandates OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers to integrate security by design into every ECU and communication link — including:

Secure Boot & Firmware Validation

Encrypted In-Vehicle Communication (CAN, Ethernet)

Secure Diagnostics & OTA Updates

Cryptographic Key Management & Certificate Handling

Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA)
