Trading Has 2 Parts: Management & Employee - Unprofitable Traders Do Wrong Work at the Wrong Time

Most people attempting to trade are doing the wrong work at the wrong time, or possibly the correct work, but at the wrong time.

I think of trading as 2 parts. There is management, and the frontline minimum wage employee.

All the "smart" trading work is done outside trading hours, during research, strategy testing, trade review, journaling, mental game improvement and preparation.

During trading hours, the job is to just follow the orders management has laid out. Think minimum wage employee making burgers. They are not there to get creative or try to improve the system. If they notice an improvement can be made, they bring it up to management and management will decide what to do with the recommendation outside trading hours.

Take the stress off during trading hours. While trading, the job is following protocol. It's low level work, yet interestingly it brings in all the money for the business. But the front line employee doesn't care about that. They don't care how much their store makes in a day or on a sale (trade). They are just there to do a job. Same job whether it's busy or quiet, doesn't matter to them.

Most traders make the mistake of trying to be smart while trading. Overthinking things, getting too creative.

Outside trading they aren't putting in the smart work. They aren't putting in the deep dive review, the journaling, the mistakes improvement, the mental preparation for tomorrow.

Put in the smart work outside trading hours. Lots of it. Be a chimp during trading hours, and don't overthink things. That's not your job during that time. Just do what management says.

Each night management does their work to make sure trading hours flow smoothly if you follow the protocols.

Take what you like from the analogy, leave the rest.

Disclaimer: Trading involves a substantial risk of loss. It is possible to lose more than deposited if using leverage. There are no guarantees of success. Trading is a difficult task to make consistent money at; only a small percentage of people who attempt it can make income from it.
