GPIO Explained! How Raspberry Pi Talks to the Real World

GPIO is one of the most powerful features of the Raspberry Pi — but it can also feel confusing if you’re new to it.

In this video, I introduce the basics of GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) and show how you can use it to control and read real-world electronics using a Raspberry Pi.

We’ll cover:
* What GPIO actually is
* What it means for a pin to be “on” or “off”
* Driving a 3.3V LED directly from a GPIO pin
* Driving a 5V LED safely using a transistor
* Reading the state of a GPIO pin as an input

This video focuses on understanding what’s happening electrically as well as how to wire things up correctly — no prior electronics experience required.

If you’ve ever wanted to move beyond software and start interacting with real hardware using your Raspberry Pi, this is the perfect place to start.
