Increased cancer risk in GenX and Millennials

The American Cancer Society in The Lancet Public Health adds to growing evidence that gen x and millennials are 2-3x more likely to get 17 cancers and at a younger age. Cancers are showing up more frequently in those in their 30s,40s, and 50s.

The study didn't really give an explanation as to why the increased cancer risk, but scientists and clinicians offer some insight based on what we already know. Certain lifestyle factors may play a role in increased cancer risk such as obesity, a bad diet, for example, eating more ultra-processed foods and a sedentary lifestyle. In addition, public health policy that affects cohorts in the same generation, such as policy relating to environmental chemicals,manufacturing, etc.
