What is the Rate of Change Indicator and how can we use it to make better trading decisions? The ROC is basically telling us how quickly an asset price is moving in percentage terms. As such this indicator is a pure momentum oscillator that quantifies the % change in price from one period to the next. The Rate of Change Indicator is drawn against a zero line that differentiates positive and negative values (via an oscillator that changes from above or below the ero line as the ROC swaps from positive to negative). The ROC serves as a trend strength indicator but it can also be used as a divergence indicator that tries to predict an upcoming trend change.
