This Smart Glove Lets Deaf-Blind People Send Messages 🤖 #assistivetech #innovation #shorts
A Smart Glove That Lets Deaf-Blind People Send And Receive Messages.
Communication is one of the biggest challenges for people who cannot see or hear. Researchers at Germany’s Design Research Lab are developing an innovative solution called the Mobile Lorm Glove — a wearable device that allows deaf-blind individuals to communicate using touch.
The glove is based on the Lorm alphabet, a tactile sign language where different letters correspond to specific points on the hand. Traditionally, this method requires another person to physically touch the hand to communicate. That limits conversations only to people who know the system and are physically present.
The Mobile Lorm Glove removes this limitation by translating these touch patterns into digital text messages.
The glove contains textile pressure sensors on the palm that detect the user’s touch patterns and convert them into text or speech through a connected smartphone. Incoming messages are sent from the phone to the glove via Bluetooth, where small vibration motors on the back of the glove translate the message back into tactile signals.
This technology could allow deaf-blind users to send SMS, read messages, and even experience digital books through touch.
In the future, developers plan to add direct speech input and output, making communication even easier.
