How to Get a Consistent Color Grade Across Multiple Shots | Day 25 of The Grade
What's going on — it's Zay, and welcome back to Day 25 of The Grade.
Today we are talking about how to get that consistent look within your footage. I show two scenes side by side — one of her laying in bed and one staring out the window. The lighting is different because of where she is in the room, but the colors — the whites, the pinks, the skin tones — they all match up. That is the goal. The technique is to find your hero shot, color grade that and use it as your baseline. Once that grade is locked in, apply it to your other clips and then adjust from there. If the lighting situation is the same across clips, the same grade should work fine. If it is different, those scenes may not belong together in the sequence anyway. Always ask yourself — does this scene fit with the one before it? Were they shot together? Are they supposed to exist in the same world? If the answer is yes, the same powergrade should carry across all of them.
Day 26 is next and we are talking about color grading log footage. Deuces.
