In this edition of Supermodel Roots, British model Karen Elson reveals never-before-heard moments from her past. With more than 35 Vogue covers, a meteoric fashion and singer-songwriter career credited to her CV, the flame-haired supermodel is one of the most renowned icons of our time. Signed at 16 years old to a model agency in her hometown of Manchester, her career in fashion soon took off (she has fronted multiple global campaigns for Miu Miu, Dior, and Louis Vuitton to name a few landmark moments). And she’s never looked back — until now.

Her journey wasn’t without its challenges, however. “I was bullied a lot. Nobody expected anything of me,” Elson tells Vogue in this very rare, intimate documentary. “But I wanted more.” From Nashville to the north of England, watch as Elson takes Vogue on an emotional and personal journey home.
