INFO: My Bloody Valentine is an Irish-English rock band formed in Dublin in 83. They’re well-known for being one of the pioneering bands of the shoegaze and dream-pop genres, known for their heavy use of distortion, reverb and tremolo manipulation. With the release of their third EP You Made Me Realise in 88, vocalist and guitarist Kevin Shields used these sound manipulations on his guitar to create an atmospheric and fleeting soundscape. Coupled with Shield’s and bandmate Bilinda Butcher’s soothing vocals, their sound became the musical equivalent of a daydream. Visceral and peaceful, but also blurry and surreal. But it wasn’t always like that. Before they released You Made Me Realize and not to mention Loveless and their newer work, the still growing band took their inspiration from post-punk bands like Joy Division and The Cramps and others. Offering a sound that was similar to their contemporaries. But since they lacked a sense of identity they were often panned by critics and received little attention to begin with. But from that place, they eventually became one of the most influential bands of all time.
