Agouti at Papillote Wilderness Retreat
The red-rumped agouti (Dasyprocta leporina) is endemic to the rainforests of Dominica. The agouti resembles a short-eared rabbit, but is more closely related to the guinea pig. At Papillote Wilderness Retreat and Tropical Gardens, the agouti can be seen foraging for fallen fruits and other vegetarian food items on the trails around the Bird Watching House in the early morning and near dusk.
