An investigation into conditions at Autumn Oaks, a Porterville facility run by Lisa Ong, has forced dozens of elderly residents from their homes and raised concerns about state oversight. County officials say problems at the facility date back years, with multiple complaints filed with the state and as many as 54 reports that prompted little action. Investigators found dangerous conditions, including bed bugs, cockroaches, and improperly stored food such as uncooked chicken kept in rooms at about 90 degrees, along with allegations of neglect and abuse. The California Department of Social Services cited 18 violations in October for food safety and maintenance. In response, Tulare County relocated 22 residents to safer accommodations at a cost above $70,000 and seeks reimbursement from the state. Ong faces several felony elder‑abuse charges. Lawmakers question inspections and enforcement, urging stronger oversight; Ong’s license surrender could allow reapplication. Her next court date is May 5.
