Happy 58th Anniverary to Planet of the Apes - Released April 3, 1968

In Planet of the Apes (1968) astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) and his crew crash-land on an unknown planet. As the survivors venture out into the desolate landscape, they encounter a group of mute, primitive humans. Events take an even darker turn when they hear strange sounds and realize they are being watched.

The astronauts and primitive humans are attacked by a hunting party of armed, horse-riding apes. Taylor tries to flee, but he is overpowered and captured. He is taken to Ape City and becomes an experimental subject of scientific curiosity and scrutiny by the society of intelligent - and sometimes brutal - apes who rule the planet.

Taylor's capture sequence foreshadows the central theme of human subjugation in the unique and upside-down world of the film.
