Your Backdrop is Your First Impression | Make it Count

Today I want to talk about your virtual backdrop. Some of us are still working from home while others have transitioned to the work environment. And if you are back at work, your organization might be building great backdrops for you.

As you are setting up your virtual training spaces
remember this, "Everything speaks."
If you are a facilitator, trainer or leader, who is leading sessions that are in-person, online or even a hybrid of in-person and online, I want to talk about your backdrop. When you are setting up take a moment and think about your space, more specifically your backdrop.

1. How does your backdrop reflect you as a trainer?

2. How does your backdrop set the tone?

For example, in this video I have a nice clean open backdrop with lots of white space. I purposely want the space open for brainstorming and ideation during an upcoming Visual Facilitation Training Framework Session I am teaching. In the space, I have set up markers, flip-charts and post-its. I also have staged notes to ensure that the session stays on track and keep the agenda moving.

If you want to continue to be seen as a riser leader, take the time to prepare your backdrop and set yourself up for success.
