Terax is a lightweight open-source terminal-first AI-native dev workspace built on Tauri 2 and Rust.
Just 7-8 MB on disk with a 300ms cold start. No telemetry. No account. No Electron tax.

In this tutorial, I show you the key features of Terax: WebGL terminal, CodeMirror 6 editor with Vim mode, file explorer, source control with git graph, live web preview, and the agentic AI side-panel that supports BYOK or fully local models.

Features:
- WebGL-accelerated terminal (xterm.js) with multi-tab and split panes
- Code editor with AI autocomplete, Vim mode, 10 built-in themes
- Source control with real commit graph, hunk staging, inline diffs
- File explorer with Catppuccin icons, fuzzy search, keyboard nav
- Web preview auto-detects Vite, Next, Astro dev servers
- AI side-panel: agentic workflows, plans, sub-agents, TERAX.md memory
