HTC REEL Kid: JoJo - Ocean Drive Elementary

A second grader at Ocean Drive Elementary, “JoJo” truly can bring out a smile to anyone he meets. JoJo not only has Academic deficits but also has Physical Challenges due to a Muscular Skeletal weakness.

JoJo does not let his deficits in Math and Reading hold him back from being an active participant in his Core Replacement small groups. He is a model student for following routines and procedures and is enthusiastic about learning new things. In addition to his Academic deficits, JoJo overcomes physical limitations due to muscular skeletal weakness. JoJo uses an adaptive keyboard to write assignments but this year he is doing more writing through his work being highlighted. He has improved on his pencil grip and eagerly writes over highlighted work. JoJo's motivation to do well is contagious and he sets the tone for all students to try their best and never give up!

JoJo is friendly to all peers and adults that he meets and encounters. From the moment he walks through the door in the morning, you can see his smile like a ray of sunshine. This year Ocean Drive Elementary adopted the saying, "Thrive at the Drive" and this is certainly true of JoJo.
