‘Public Square’ Twitter Space: Let's Talk about Gender and Mobility #IWD2023
Women use public transport at a greater rate than men, yet they face many barriers that limit their ability to travel. Mobility is not gender neutral; women, girls and gender non-conforming communities have different transport needs and patterns, yet policies in most countries and cities remain unrelentingly gender-neutral and male-driven. As a result, access to buses, trains, informal transit, cycling, and even public space remains vastly unequal, with these challenges further exacerbated by the global pandemic.
