It empowers you to do what you ordinarily could not do.

In the Old Testament: the oil set someone apart for a specific role (king, priest, prophet). Ex: David was anointed to be King.
In the New Testament reality: the Holy Spirit Himself indwells and empowers believers.

The anointing is the working of God’s presence + God’s power + God’s purpose operating through a person. We are not nor can we ever be anointed on our own! It is by Authorization (God has appointed this) with the Ability (God enables what you couldn’t do naturally) and causes the Effect (lives change, burdens lift, body is healed).
