The World After Subaru Dies | Re:Zero Season 2 Episode 12 Review/Analysis

Natsuki Subaru takes the second trial of the Sanctuary, and witnesses the unthinkable present.

Here's my review of Re:Zero Season 2 Episode 12, AKA Re:Zero Episode 37.

After recovering from the worst loop yet, Subaru enters the Witch's tomb and accidentally takes the second trial. Because of his unique ability, this trial is extremely hard for Subaru. He has to witness the fate of each world after he left it, and that was too much for him to bear. One scene of note showed Puck, the Beast of the End, being killed by Reinhard van Astrea, the Sword Saint (using the Dragon Sword Reid). After failing the trial, Subaru's greeted by a Rem, who is no longer asleep. Rem tries to kiss Subaru shortly before he learns that she's really Carmilla, the Witch of Lust. Subaru enters another Witch's Tea Party, where Echidna, the Witch of Greed, offers to form a contract with him. They're interrupted by Minerva and all the other witches, including Sehkmet, the Witch of Sloth. Echidna then gives a long speech, revealing her true intentions. Echidna's real goal is to use Subaru's Return by Death ability to satisfy her curiosity. Subaru rejects her, and then Satella, the Witch of Envy appears.
