Taking yourself too seriously doesn’t make you more respected… it actually traps you in your ego. You’re constantly trying to prove your worth and appear a certain way. It’s exhausting and sending the message that you seek validation. And worse, it disconnects you from who you really are.
In this short video, I talk about how I used to take myself way too seriously—and how that mindset kept me stuck in my head, always trying to protect an image instead of just embracing my true self. The reality is the more defensive you are, the more you are expressing your need to control the perception others have of you, which can cause you to be less self-aware of what’s really happening. What you are actually doing is chasing external validation instead of building internal self-esteem.
Real confidence comes when you stop trying to control how others see you. It’s not about being careless, but practicing the ability to care-less and detach yourself from the opinions of others.
That shift is what helped me improve self-awareness and focusing on the noise. You become more self-aware not by defending your worth—but by realizing you don’t need to.
