This is Andamooka matrix opal — a natural stone with natural colour and pattern, enhanced to bring out its best. The treatment is permanent, and the results can be stunning.

There are two types of Andamooka matrix:
• Hard matrix – takes a natural polish
• Rainbow (soft) matrix – often needs stabilising

Both are genuine opal. Years ago, miners even called some of this material “concrete” and threw it away — much like early Lightning Ridge blues and greens that no one wanted at the time.

Some stones are treated using acid, others with sugar-only treatment in a vacuum chamber. We also use a food-safe resin where required. Different methods, same goal — reveal the colour and pattern that’s already there.

We have:

• Calibrated stones

Price points are accessible, colours are bold, and every piece is different.
