Rene Bouche: Fashion Illustrator
Rene Bouche, born in Austro-Hungarian Prague, left for Paris during the war changing his name from Buchstein. He then left Paris for New York. His arrival in New York was timely and he was an instant success in both fashion illustrations and later portraiture for the aristocracy and their equivalents - Marina Agnelli, Jackie Kennedy, Babe Paley.
Although he admired the vanguard of American artists, his personal friends, he decided not to keep in step with them. He made a decision and quite deliberately set out to make his work and life one. He succeeded.
He believed that warmth, dignity, elegance, and sophistication, even charm, are positive values for the painter, not to be effaced but rather to be nourished and kept beautiful.
The background music is Beyond the Moon and Sophisticated Samba by Geraldo Frisina.
