Broadway celebrated the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall, where Schmigadoon! won Best New Musical, completing Apple’s EGOT with Emmys, an Oscar, and a Grammy. Creator Cinco Paul and producer Lorne Michaels celebrated Schmigadoon!’s wins for score and book. John Lithgow, 80, became the oldest competitive Tony winner, for Best Leading Actor in a Play in Giant. Bess Wohl’s Liberation won Best Play, a Pulitzer drama about a 1970s women’s group; Wohl is the fourth woman to win Best Play. Death of a Salesman won Best Revival with Laurie Metcalf among the top honors. Ragtime won Best Musical Revival, with Caissie Levy and Joshua Henry earning principal acting awards. Qween Jean became the first openly trans Tony winner for Catsand The Jellicle Ball costumes; Lesley Manville won Best Lead Actress in a Play for Oedipus. Pink hosted. The ceremony featured medleys, tributes to legends, and performances from major catalogs.
