Today on December 4, 2009 in Moscow, Russia passed away the Great Russian actor, the national actor of the USSR Vyacheslav Tikhonov. A courage and nobleness symbol. He was 82 years old.
His best known television role was that of Standartenführer Stirlitz (a Soviet spy) in the famous series Seventeen Moments of Spring. The 17 moments are 17 days in the spring of 1945 just before the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. The film enjoyed enormous popularity among Russian viewers of several generations.
He also played Prince Andrei Bolkonski in the Oscar-winning War and Peace (1969) by Sergei Bondarchuk and an old man in another Oscar-winner, Burnt by the Sun (1994) by Nikita Mikhalkov.
